Award-Winning Podiatrists In Kenosha & Paddock Lake, WI, For Extracoporeal Pulse Activation Therapy (EPAT)

Extracoporeal Pulse Activation Therapy (EPAT)

Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Therapy (EPAT) treats soft tissue and bone disorders around the foot and ankle. EPAT can be effective in treating heel spurs (plantar fasciitis), chronic muscle pain, Achilles tendonitis, and fractured bones that are healed poorly.

The highly advanced equipment used to deliver EPAT has been evaluated and approved by the FDA. Today, EPAT technology is used throughout the world.

Treatment

EPAT sends sound wave pulses into your soft tissue, causing microtrauma, or highly-controlled, microscopic “injuries” in the soft tissue or bone. These “injuries” trigger a healing reaction in your body with improved blood circulation. EPAT can also break up tissues that have become fibrotic or calcified. An average EPAT treatment lasts approximately 15 minutes and should be repeated once weekly for three weeks.

Recovery & Results

The EPAT procedure is non-invasive and has minimal downtime. Some patients may report mild discomfort, redness, or bruising, but this typically resolves within a few days, if not sooner.

The full benefits of EPAT treatment can take up to three months, but most patients report feeling notably better within a month of treatment. In some cases, patients even report improvement immediately after their treatment.

When using a 0-10 pain scale, 83% of patients treated report a reduction of at least 5 scale points for their condition. On rare occasions, patients follow up their EPAT with invasive surgical procedures. No patients have been made worse, and no patients have developed complications or experienced side effects after receiving treatment with EPAT.

EPAT vs. EWST Treatment

EPAT should not be confused with EWST treatment, which uses the same sound wave concept, but is an older type of the technology. While EWST patients need anesthesia to tolerate the procedure, EPAT’s more advanced and refined technology allows patients to have treatment without anesthesia.

Weil Foot & Ankle Institute in Kenosha and Paddock Lake, WI has successfully performed sound wave treatments since February of 2000. We participated in three FDA studies on sound wave technology, as well as multiple clinical studies. Our clinical studies showed a greater than 80% success rate to treat heel spurs (plantar fasciitis) and other tendon problems related to the foot and ankle. Full clinical benefits are fully realized 2-3 months following the procedure.

Dr. Lowell Weil Jr. served as the President of the International Society for Medical Shockwave Treatment from 2009 to 2010, culminating in Weil Foot & Ankle Institute‘s hosting the 10th Annual ISMST Scientific Congress in June 2010.

Cost Of Extracoporeal Pulse Activation Therapy (EPAT)

Costs depend upon the location of pain and the time needed to treat the condition. Many insurance companies cover the cost of EPAT treatment.
